With over 16,000 Fellows and members worldwide, The Royal College of Radiologists exists to lead, educate and support doctors who are training and working in the specialties of clinical oncology and clinical radiology. With such a broad perspective on our two specialties, we develop and deliver a unique body of work which could not be undertaken by any other organisation.

Dr Anu Obaro is a consultant radiologist and PhD researcher studying bowel cancer imaging interpretation at St Mark’s Hospital, London. She is the recipient of the John Nichols Prize for Research 2020 and was awarded Diversity Champion - COVID Heart Hero Award 2021 for her COVID vaccine advocacy work. Anu is co-chair of the Independent Staff Insight Group which ensures an inclusive approach to developing Trust-wide strategies at London North West Healthcare Trust. She is a passionate educator and racial equity advocate having presented talks on racism which have been viewed all over the world. As co-founder of RadReach she has a desire to increase the number of people from under-represented groups in radiology while also ensuring that they have an enriching and supportive training experience.

It is important to me to make a valuable contribution to society and I choose to do this by working with doctors, who have a direct impact on the health and wellbeing of others. My work gives me great satisfaction – and gives my clients great results.

I'm truly honoured today
to become the President of the Royal College of Radiologists
There can be no doubt that the NHS
is under really severe pressure at the moment
and many of you have experienced great difficulties
in both your personal and professional lives
The main focus of the RCR
has always been its members and Fellows
and this will be no different under my tenure
Having said that, the pandemic has led
to huge national interest
in both cancer and diagnostics
and we must aim to capitalise on this
and keep both of our professions in the spotlight
Our first priority must be
to increase the number of doctors in our specialties
but we must also look at how we can make
the best use of technology
to plug some of the workforce gaps
We really need to work differently
if we're going to meet the needs
of patients in the future
Finally, I'd like to concentrate on wellness
We need to ensure that
our members and Fellows remain
resilient and robust, so we continue
to provide excellent care for patients
So, over the next three years
please do get in touch
with the College at any stage
for support and advice
and don't hesitate to offer us
the benefits of your experience and wisdom
I'm really looking forward to working with you
