Instructions for candidates
LEARN MORE

Please read, and comply with, the following instructions:

  • You are expected to behave in a reasonable and respectful manner throughout the exam period. You must comply with the instructions and requirements of the exam invigilators at all times.
  • Exam conditions will begin 15 minutes before the start of the exam. At this time ALL electronic equipment such as laptops, tablets, mobile phones, smartwatches, or any other device that emits an audible sound should be switched off and placed in your bag, which should be left at the side of the room. If you are found to have any of these devices with you during the exam, you may be disqualified. If you do not have a bag, you should hand your phone to the invigilator who will keep it until the end of the exam.
  • Once you are under exam conditions, you should not have anything on your desk other than your candidate timetable and your photographic ID.
  • You must not start the exam until instructed to do so by the invigilators. Candidates viewing the first exam image, prior to the start of the exam, risk being disqualified.
  • If you finish before the exam time has elapsed, please do not log out – you will be instructed to do this by the invigilator at the end of the exam.
  • When you are told that the time is up, please stop typing immediately and listen carefully to the invigilators’ instructions, before logging out of the exam. Failure to do so will result in disqualification.
  • If you attempt to make a copy of any of the exam materials, you risk being disqualified. This includes writing details of the cases that you are shown or releasing exam content to a third party (including sharing exam content online) after the exam.
  • If you have a query during the exam, please remain at your desk, raise your hand and wait for an invigilator to come to you. DO NOT shout out.

Reporting Session

  1. The Reporting Session is of 75 minutes' duration.
  2. You will be given six cases, all of which must be reported. A brief case history and relevant clinical data will be provided for each. Each case may comprise multiple images or imaging sequences. When scrolling through sequences, if you have difficulty scrolling using the mouse, you may find it easier to use the up and down arrows on the keyboard instead.
  3. The cases will be of differing complexity and you should ensure that you allow sufficient time to report each case adequately.
  4. Reports should be typed in the relevant spaces provided on the screen. You do not need to fill all of the space.
  5. Reports must be brief and relevant. It is recommended that you use bullet points rather than long sentences.
  6. You will be penalised for incorrect statements, lack of discrimination in conclusions and for suggestions of clinically inappropriate additional investigations and/or management.

Rapid Reporting Session

  1. The Rapid Reporting Session is of 35 minutes' duration and consists of 30 cases. You are asked to identify which of those cases are normal and those that are abnormal. For those cases that you feel are abnormal you should also identify (briefly) the abnormality/diagnosis.
  2. Minor age-related changes should be recorded as "normal". Anatomical variants should be recorded as "normal".

You are reminded that, during the exam, information concerning patients will become available to you. Patient confidentiality must be respected. Exam cases must not be discussed with anyone other than the examiners.
