New code of conduct for the use of artificial intelligence in healthcare

The Royal College of Radiologists (RCR) has welcomed a new official code of conduct from the Department of Health and Social Care, detailing guidance for the development of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in healthcare.

RCR Vice President for Clinical Radiology Dr Caroline Rubin said:

“The RCR very much welcomes the new voluntary code of conduct, which puts patient rights and needs at the centre of the development of healthcare IT and AI tools.

“The principles act as prudent guidelines for commercial companies, academics and hospitals creating AI applications to benefit clinical radiology and clinical oncology, and we wholeheartedly support the official push for transparent cross-industry standards which promote robust testing, quality assurance and interoperability across the NHS.”
